This week has seen some pretty amazing additions to the triple j playlist, with plenty of well-deserved Aussie acts getting the recognition they need. Of course, it can't all be homegrown talent, with lots of amazing international acts getting in on the action as well.
With so many amazing artists and songs floating around the airwaves, it can be a little hard to keep track of what we've been listening to over the week. That's why we've decided to take a look back over the 20 most-played artists on triple j this week, and give you a quick rundown on just who they are, and why you've been hearing so much of them.
Alex Lahey is well on her way to being the future of Australian indie-rock. With her newest single ‘Every Day’s The Weekend’ being absolutely adored by listeners lately, and with a tour on the way, you’re going to be hearing plenty of Alex Lahey in the coming months, and that’s just what we need in our lives.
After releasing their third record, Sacred Hearts Club, just a few weeks ago, Foster The People have been seeing a resurgence in popularity, with listeners unable to get enough of their awesome style of indie-rock.
“This that tune that I know you want to hum,” Kah-Lo spits at the beginning of ‘Fasta’, and it clearly is, because triple j listeners are adoring Kah-Lo more and more recently.
Matthew Young has had his glorious musical message broadcast to countless triple j listeners lately, getting stuck in their heads and driving his popularity levels off the charts. Here’s hoping we’ll be hearing more from this reclusive New Zealand musician real soon.
Everything Everything are pretty popular popular thanks to the release of their newest record, A Fever Dream, recently. With ‘Desire’ currently carving up the airwaves, we’re pretty sure you’re going to be hearing plenty more Everything Everything in the coming weeks.
The Creases have been toiling away on the live circuit for some time now, and are finally getting the widespread recognition that they so deserve. With their debut record Tremelow seeing rave reviews, these Brit-pop revivalists are kicking goals all over the place.
Let’s face it, if you’re successful as a musician, what’s the surefire way to quick success? Team up with another hugely successful musician. That’s exactly how Snakehips & Anne-Marie got together, and they haven’t looked back since.
South Australia’s Motez has been getting plenty of well-deserved airplay lately, thanks to tracks like ‘The Future’. This is clearly the start of something wonderful from this brilliant Adelaide muso.
Arcade Fire continue to ride the wave of success that they generated with their fifth record Everything Now. It’s hardly any wonder why the group are considered one of the greatest bands of modern indie music.
6lack’s track ’That Far’ has been dominating the airwaves this week. Now, with an Aussie tour set to kick off in October, we’re undoubtedly set to hear plenty more from this US wordsmith.
Haim took out the top spot on this list two weeks back, and fell down a bit last week. Now, the Los Angeles sisters are back on the up-and-up, holding onto the tenth spot on this week’s list. Clearly, triple j fans are still loving the group’s hit ‘Little Of Your Love’.
Two Door Cinema Club just continue to maintain a radio presence, despite not releasing any new music in quite some time. Oh well, we’ve got plenty of amazing tunes from them to enjoy until we get a new album or single in the future.
Tired Lion are just killing it right now. With their track ‘Fresh’ sitting at the second position on the list of most-played songs for the week, one position down from last week, we’re certain this one is going to be in a few year-end Hottest 100 lists.
Wolf Alice have been seeing a huge amount of popularity recently. With their new record Visions Of A Life on its way, and their track ‘Don’t Delete The Kisses’ dominating the airwaves, get ready to hear plenty more from these English musos.
After hitting number eleven on this list last week, the Kiwi pop-superstar’s popularity has just exploded yet again, with her tunes being loved by more and more listeners yet again. Who know, maybe this is the second wind that Lorde’s second record, Melodrama, definitely deserves?
Arno Faraji’s ‘destiny’s’ has been getting some immense airplay thanks to the young Perth muso taking out triple j Unearthed’s Unearthed High competition this year. We’re sure this is just the start of a long, illustrious career.
Meg Mac’s ‘Ride It’ was the most popular song on the station this week, and rightly so. Now that her long-awaited debut record has been released, fans are keen to just keep listening to the vast amount of killer tunes contained within. So there’s a fair chance you’ll be seeing Meg Mac on this list for some time to come.
Gang Of Youths are riding high right now. After scoring triple j’s feature album title, the group currently have the number one album on the ARIA charts - something most bands go their whole careers without achieving. Only two albums in and already chart-toppers, the future looks incredibly bright for these Sydney lads.
The xx are the musical gift that keeps on giving. Fresh from their performance at Splendour In The Grass last month, the group’s newest record, I See You, continues to give us plenty of awesome jams to tune into, including ‘On Hold’, and ‘I Dare You’.
Gordi has the rare distinction of being the most-played artist this week, without having any single song in the list of most-played songs. This of course indicates that Gordi’s catalogue of songs is so consistently great that triple j has so many hits to choose from. Hopefully this won’t harm Gordi’s chances of grabbing a spot in this year’s Hottest 100 countdown, because we’re pretty certain that’s where she’s headed.
