Get to know the 20 most-played acts on triple j this week

As usual, it’s been a pretty big week for music on triple j, with some of the finest local and international acts getting some pretty solid airplay. But just what were listeners loving the most this week? What were the tunes that dominated the airwaves, and who were the artists that now have heaps of new fans after plenty of exposure on triple j?

Well, we’ve decided to take a look at the charts for the last week and give you a quick run-through as to which artists saw the most airplay. Just looking at this list of artists though, it’s amazing to think that music fans in this country have access to such a wide-reaching and diverse range of music available to them – we’re incredibly lucky!

20. Drake

A favourite of triple j, Drake’s back on our radar thanks to not only his brilliant 2017 hit ‘Passionfruit’, but also to the release of his newest singles ‘God’s Plan’ and ‘Diplomatic Immunity’ from his Scary Hours EP. Is album number five on the way? We hope so!

19. Angus And Julia Stone

Angus And Julia Stone’s newest record, Snow, has been out for a few months now, and it has been a wonderful return for the siblings. Fans have been absolutely loving the duo’s track ‘Chateau’, which has just recently scored a well-deserved #3 placing in this year’s Hottest 100 countdown.

18. Meg Mac

With so many brilliant songs to her name, it’s understandable that Meg Mac has managed to make it into the most-played acts for the week without any of her songs making the top 20 for the week. With an uncanny ability to write some stunningly gorgeous songs, it’s hardly any surprise, is it?

17. Superorganism

Sounding less like an indie pop band and sounding more like a Transformers villain, Superorganism are an inter-continental group of musos living in London who just keep cranking out the tunes. With ‘Everybody Wants To Be Famous’ currently the fourth most-played track on triple j, we’re certain this sprawling collective will be even bigger in no time.

16. Hockey Dad

Hockey Dad are one of the most in-demand Aussie bands right now. Having had a stellar 2017, and now gearing up to release their second album, Blend Inn, we can’t wait to see more of these boys as they continue to dominate the Aussie rock scene.

15. Ball Park Music

Following a year in which Ball Park Music dominated with their endearing indie banger ‘Exactly How You Are’, the band closed out 2017 with the release of ‘The Perfect Life Does Not Exist’. While we’re loving these new tunes, we’re just really keen on that new album, guys!

14. Elk Road

Following a solid couple years of hits, including last year’s Hottest 100-placing ‘Hanging By A Thread’, Elk Road has undoubtedly scored his biggest hit with the success of ‘Solid Gold’. Featuring the likes of Julia Stone, this song is guaranteed to be an enduring banger for quite some time now.

13. Gordi

Gordi’s debut record was released in 2017, and inexplicably, early vinyl copies contained half of Queens Of The Stone Age’s new record. This little hiccup didn’t hinder this Aussie star’s success in any way, with her record selling like hotcakes, and triple j giving tracks like ‘On My Side’ plenty of love.

12. Tired Lion

Tired Lion’s Dumb Days scored plenty of accolades and critical reception upon its release, but the band aren’t obviously out of the minds of fans just yet, with triple j giving Tired Lion enough spins to make them one of the most-played acts on the station this week.

11. Alice Ivy

Alice Ivy has been seeing a massive rise in popularity since the release of her tracks ‘Touch’ and ‘Almost Here’. Now, with her Bertie Blackman-featuring track ‘Chasing Stars’ becoming the most played track on the station once again, the Melbourne producer is just getting started on her journey to world domination.

10. The Wombats

Honorary Aussies The Wombats are gearing up to release their fourth album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, next month. Having already released the album’s first single, ‘Lemon To A Knife Fight’, the group’s latest single ‘Cheetah Tongue’ has already begun doing the rounds, gaining them plenty more fans in the process.

9. BROCKHAMPTON

After a stunning 2017, BROCKHAMPTON have revealed that they’ve got plans for more music in the future, much to everyone’s delight. With plenty of US tour dates on the horizon, we’re hoping these guys won’t forget their Aussie pals when it comes time to announce international tour dates.

8. Migos

Migos just released their third studio album, Culture II, last Friday, and understandably, fans are going wild for all the great tunes this new record holds. With ‘Stir Fry’ currently the third most-played track on triple j this week, you can be certain you’ll be hearing plenty more of Migos in the coming months.

7. BØRNS

Following the release of his debut album back in 2012, Garret Borns has been winning fans all over the world. Now, with the release of his third album (and second under the Børns moniker), Blue Madonna, Aussie fans have been all over this US muso. With his album currently the feature album for the week, get ready to hear plenty more from Børns in the future.

6. Tame Impala

It’s been over two years since Tame Impala last released a record, but thanks in part to the recent Collector’s Edition reissue of Currents, they’re back on top of the popularity pile. Let’s face it though, they were never too far away.

5. Vance Joy

We’re one month away from Vance Joy’s long-awaited second album, Nation Of Two, and with songs such as ‘Lay It On Me’ and ‘We’re Going Home’ warranting constant airplay on the station, we reckon that Vance Joy has hit upon gold once more.

4. Gang of Youths

Following an immensely huge 2017, Gang Of Youths are still continuing to dominate, with plenty of brilliant tunes from their second LP scoring well-deserved spots in the recent Hottest 100 countdown. You can expect to hear even more of these modern legends in the future.

3. Kendrick Lamar

Kung-Fu Kenny already had a pretty good standing as it was, with constant airplay over the last couple of weeks. Now, with his huge hit ‘HUMBLE.’ scoring the top spot on this year’s Hottest 100 (along with a handful of other hits), you can expect to hear plenty more of Kendrick in the coming days.

2. Lorde

Do we really have to explain why Lorde has been seeing so much love? With plenty of awesome songs all over the radio thanks to her second record Melodrama, Lorde continues to dominate, even now, months after the album was first unleashed.

1. Tonight Alive

It’s sort of hard to believe, but Tonight Alive are celebrating their tenth year as a band in 2018. To help with this anniversary, the group released their fourth album, Underworld, earlier this month. With huge singles, such as ‘Temple’, all over the airwaves, there’s no wonder that these Sydney musos have been getting the love they deserve.

20. Maddy Jane

Ever since Maddy Jane first burst onto the scene a couple of years ago, fans have been going wild for her unique brand of storytelling and songwriting. Now, with her profile starting to rise even more with tunes like ‘Thank You And Sorry’, Maddy Jane has made it into this week’s most-played list, and rightly so!

19. The Vaccines

Returning for the first time in three years, The Vaccines have burst back onto the scene with the typically brilliant ‘I Can’t Quit’, which has racked up enough airplay to become this week’s tenth most-popular song.

18. Franz Ferdinand

Five years since their last studio effort (and three years after a collab album with Sparks), Franz Ferdinand are getting ready to release their fifth album, Always Ascending. Preceded by the highly-popular title track, get ready for plenty more of these guys real soon.

17. Elk Road

Featuring the triple j favourites ‘Don’t Delete the Kisses’ and ‘Beautifully Unconventional’, Wolf Alice are undoubtedly one of the most popular acts on triple j lately.

10. BROCKHAMPTON

After a stunning 2017, BROCKHAMPTON have revealed that they’ve got plans for more music in the future, much to everyone’s delight. With plenty of US tour dates on the horizon, we’re hoping these guys won’t forget their Aussie pals when it comes time to announce international tour dates.
