Get to know the 20 most-played acts on triple j this week

Another week has passed, and triple j have spent it doing what they do best – delivering endless hit tunes by a wide variety of brilliant artists from both here and abroad.

Of course, with so many songs being played in a week, it can get pretty tough to know the artists that have been the most popular. That’s where we come in. We’ve compiled a list of the most-played acts for the week so you can put a name to those tunes you’ve been hearing all week. Who knows, you might just discover a new favourite thanks to this list.

20. Kendrick Lamar

Kung-Fu Kenny already had a pretty good standing as it was, with constant airplay over the last couple of weeks. Now, with his huge hit ‘HUMBLE.’ scoring the top spot on this year’s recent Hottest 100 (along with a handful of other hits), you can expect to hear plenty more of Kendrick in the coming months.

19. City Calm Down

City Calm Down took the Aussie rock scene by storm when they released their debut album a few years back. Now, with the promise of their new record, Echoes In Blue, dropping April, and their new single, ‘In This Modern Land’, doing the rounds on triple j lately, the future is bright for these Melbourne musos.

18. Middle Kids

After stunning with their debut EP last year, Middle Kids have given us the first taste of their first album. With ‘Mistake’ currently the twelfth most-played song on the station this week, you can be certain its only going to climb higher.

17. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever

Following the success of last year’s French Press EP, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have seen plenty of local and international love. Now, with their debut album, Horizons, on the… horizon, the group have managed to score loads of airplay too.

16. Cashmere Cat, Major Lazer & Tory Lanez

Swedish producer Cashmere Cat recently teamed up with the huge Major Lazer crew and Tory Lanez to create one of this year’s verified bangers. Currently the eleventh most-played track on the station, ‘Miss You’ is undoubtedly going to be one tune to make 2018 a year to remember.

15. Drake

A favourite of triple j, Drake’s back on our radar thanks to not only his brilliant 2017 hit ‘Passionfruit’, but also to the release of his newest singles ‘God’s Plan’ and ‘Diplomatic Immunity’ from his Scary Hours EP. Is album number five on the way? We hope so!

14. Ball Park Music

Following a year in which Ball Park Music dominated with their endearing indie banger ‘Exactly How You Are’, the band closed out 2017 with the release of ‘The Perfect Life Does Not Exist’. While we’re loving these new tunes, we’re just really keen on that new album, guys!

13. Yaeji

A year ago, most Aussie music fans would have had no clue who Yaeji was, but now, this New York City-based DJ has found a way to turn her huge bangers into some seriously amazing affairs. With tracks like ‘raingurl’ doing the rounds on triple j right now, this amazing muso has been getting the praise she so deserves.

12. Camp Cope

As Camp Cope get ready to release their highly-anticipated second album, the group have been seeing some huge airplay. Following the success of first single ‘The Opener’, the band’s second single, ‘How To Socialise & Make Friends’ has been going gangbusters lately.

11. alt-J

Having won over Aussie audiences with their brilliant record Relaxer last year, alt-J have continued to impress us with singles like ‘In Cold Blood’ still receiving well-deserved airplay. While we’ve not got any news on when another album will be on the way, we can definitely say we’re excited for what the future brings.

10. Yungblud

At only 20, Yungblud has achieved more in a few months than many of us will in a lifetime. Still riding high off the success of single ‘I Love You, Will You Marry Me’ and now the release of his debut EP, this talented Englishman has been killing it on Aussie radio lately.

9. Peking Duk

Despite many years on the scene, Peking Duk still haven’t given us that debut album (which will turn into a greatest hits album if you give them another couple of months). However, their newest single, ‘Wasted’, has become the fifth most-played track on the station, only weeks after hits like ‘Let You Down’ and ‘Fake Magic’ held down that same spot.

8. Alice Ivy

Alice Ivy has been seeing a massive rise in popularity since the release of her tracks ‘Touch’ and ‘Almost Here’. Now, with her Bertie Blackman-featuring track ‘Chasing Stars’ becoming the sixth most-played track on the station, the Melbourne producer is just getting started on her journey to world domination.

7. Chvrches

It’s been a quiet few years for Chvrches, but now the Scottish indie legends are set to release their third album, Love Is Dead pretty soon. To get fans keen though, Chvrches recently released their newest single, ‘Get Out’, and as expected, audiences have been absolutely eating it up.

6. Towkio

Towkio has been on the scene for about five years now, and with his debut album dropping three years back, it looks like we’re set to see a new one dropping soon. With ‘Symphony’ taking over the airwaves lately, it looks like we might just be getting album number two-kio from Towkio soon enough.

5. Hockey Dad

Hockey Dad are one of the most in-demand Aussie bands right now. Having had a stellar 2017, and now releasing their second album, Blend Inn, we’ve seen these Windang lads hit the top of most-played tracks this week with the grungey ‘Homely Feeling’ – a well-deserved honour.

4. Migos

Migos recently released their third studio album, Culture II, and understandably, fans are going wild for all the great tunes this new record holds. With ‘Stir Fry’ currently the seventh most-played track on triple j this week, you can be certain you’ll be hearing plenty more of Migos in the coming months.

3. Vance Joy

We’re only days away from Vance Joy’s long-awaited second album, Nation Of Two, and with songs such as ‘Lay It On Me’ and ‘We’re Going Home’ warranting constant airplay on the station, we reckon that Vance Joy has hit upon gold once more.

2. Vince Staples

Big Fish Theory has been out for well over a year now, but that hasn’t stopped Vince Staples becoming this week’s second most-played artist. With tunes like ‘Big Fish’ and ‘Rain Come Down’ tearing up the airwaves, it’s hardly any wonder that Vince Staples has done so well this week.

1. The Wombats

Honorary Aussies The Wombats have just released their fourth album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life, and fans are loving it. The group’s latest single ‘Cheetah Tongue’ has been doing the rounds too, gaining them plenty more fans in the process, and showing off yet another full-length selection of the group’s best work.
